There was a ground breaking ceremony at Ruthven Road on 14th April, to mark the start of construction on the site.
About The Haven
The proposed development, The Haven, will deliver six high quality purpose-built bungalows, complete with staff accommodation, creating supported housing for young people with individual care needs. It will be delivered by Elim Housing.
Giving those young people a supported home of their own in a community setting. Rather than placing them in an institution or hospital setting. Giving them a home for life with care wrapped around them to suit their needs, providing the balance of independent living and 24 hour staff support. The project was co-designed by young people with additional needs and the spaces are designed to be quiet and private.
Innovative funding model to make this project happen
It was a landmark decision by Homes England and Bristol City Council to fund the project, alongside the funds made available to Elim Housing through a merger with Places for People. The funding arrangement agreed by Homes England is believed to be the first of its kind in England and could set a new standard for similar projects across the country. Reducing the need for more expensive less tailored care in institutional settings, often at a distance from family and community ties.

Breaking Ground
The breaking ground ceremony saw representatives from Elim Housing, Bristol City Council, Homes England, NHS Bristol and local Councillors come together, including previous local councillor Chris Jackson who supported the scheme. £70K was spent relocating slow worms and other reptiles, including frogs and tadpoles from the site.
The scheme is developed jointly with Bristol City Council, Homes England, The Haven Charity and other stakeholders, and Is due for completion in early spring 2027. Read more: Elim Housing.
