📢Councillor Update!
🏛️It was a privilege to attend the Youth Voice conference at City Hall where young people from across the city, represented their communities and debated on the issues that mattered to them, including knife crime, safety and youth services. They were all inspiring and brought a real energy to the council chambers.
🏢Work has now started on the South Bristol Youth Zone with an expected opening date in Spring 2026. This will bring amazing opportunities for our young people and we are pleased to see it get underway. It’s important that local people are kept well-informed about progress and can escalate any concerns around the construction process, so please get in touch if you have any questions.
⛔ We are disappointed by the proposals to reduce black bin collections to once a month and will strongly oppose this. This will make our community’s fly-tipping problems worse. There are other ways to boost recycling rates and save money. You can sign Labour’s petition here: http://bit.ly/4hPv6GN
🏗️⚽Filwood Broadway regeneration: Planning permission has now been granted for refurbishing & expanding Filwood Community Centre. Construction on the old cinema site has now started and interim improvements are being made on the MUGA on Filwood Broadway while plans are finalised for a new one on Filwood Playing Fields. The new street art created by local young people with the support of StreetSpace looks fantastic!
🗣️Full council and member forums – over the last 2 months, we have asked questions of the leadership on dangerous routes for pedestrians on Novers Hill, fly-tipping and Bristol Waste and the situation regarding Eagle House Youth Club. We are pleased that two Labour motions on making Bristol the most accessible city for disabled and older people and safe travel home for night economy workers pass with cross-party support.
🏠Surgeries – we’ve continued to hear from residents at both our street surgeries and our regular surgery at Filwood Library, on the 2nd Saturday of the month. Fly-tipping, lack of traffic calming and anti-social behaviour are raised with us frequently. We have been following up on these issues with the council.
We really want to hear from you so please do get in touch:
