Get involved in Knowle West Fest

The popular Knowle West Fest is back on 22 September – and looking for local people to get involved.

Now in its fourth year, the festival was originally started to celebrate different cultures, ages and local talent. It is run by Knowle West Together, a group of organisations working to improve the area.

This year the theme will be ‘Proud of Knowle West’ and the festival will be led by Makala Cheung of Filwood Community Centre.

She says: “It’s going to be a true festival style, with live music, tents, barbecue, activities, workshops and we’re having a small local market.

“If anyone wants to get involved in planning or performing there are meetings the second Wednesday of every month at Filwood Community Centre. All ideas are welcome…

“We really want people from Knowle West of all ages to come along and have fun on the day…”

Activities will take place throughout Filwood Community Centre to mark its 80th year – with live music in the main hall and acoustic music in the garden.

The line-up at time of going to press includes DJ Bunjy from Laid Black, Makala Cheung and live band and 3 Culture from the former Phresh Boiz. There will also be appearances from X Factor Star Daniel Quick and Pablo Ceejay who trained with Tricky.

Other attractions will include a steel pan workshop, circus performance and pop up cinema showing local films.

People who live, work or have connections in the area are invited to join the Knowle West Together meetings on the second Wednesday of the month from 2-3pm at Filwood Community Centre. The next one is planned 13 June – but check with Makala at the office first.

The festival will run from 1pm until late with tickets costing £1 and under-fives free. More information will be available on Facebook – Knowle West Fest 2018, from Filwood Community Centre office (0117 914 9216) or posters in the area nearer the time.
