Vaccinations starting at Knowle West Healthy Living Centre
Patients will be contacted by their surgeries for appointments
Knowle West Healthy Living Centre will be offering vaccinations by appointment from tomorrow (Friday 15 January).
Based at Knowle West Health Park in Downton Road, it is now the venue for the local SWIFT Primary Care Network (PCN) Vaccination Centre.
Both Merrywood and Crest – based close by – are two of the eight SWIFT GP practices which will be using the centre. Patients can’t drop in to the centre – but should wait to be contacted by their surgery for an appointment.
This comes in the same week that Ashton Gate Stadium opened as one of seven “super vaccination centres” in England. But the new venue at the Health Park means local people won’t have to travel so far.
The Healthy Living Centre and Merrywood Practice have issued a joint statement for patients:
“Over the next couple of weeks the eight SWIFT GP practices will be contacting all their patients aged over 75 to book in for the COVID vaccination. SWIFT will then be making arrangements to visit care homes to vaccinate staff and patients.
“Patients may have been contacted by NHS England to book a vaccination at Ashton Gate. Patients can choose to wait for an appointment at the Healthy Living Centre or go to Ashton Gate.
“If you cannot get to Ashton Gate Stadium and are over 75 years old you will not “miss out” – you can simply wait for your GP surgery to contact you.”
On Monday (11 January) the government published a plan for the “largest vaccination programme in British history” with the aim of vaccinating tens of millions of people by spring.
It wants to achieve at least 2 million vaccinations per week by the end of January – with over 2,700 vaccine sites across the UK and everyone in England to be within 10 miles of a site.
All residents and staff in over 10,000 care homes across the country will also be offered a vaccine by the end of this month.
