Tributes for Knowle West teenager who died after being hit by a car

Tributes have been pouring in for “helpful and kind” Knowle West teenager Chris Marsh – who died in hospital after being hit by a car on Novers Lane on Saturday.

Police say the 14-year-old was involved in a collision with a car around 1.15pm on Saturday 17 February on Novers Lane at the junction of Chelston Road and Chadleigh Grove.

Chris had just got off the bus which was heading towards Hartcliffe Way and was hit by a car overtaking the stationary vehicle. The teenager suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital. He died from his injuries at Southmead Hospital yesterday (Tuesday).

A shocked community has rallied round following the tragic news to help his family pay £3,500 funeral expenses. Musician Darren Sims is holding a fundraising event at the Kings Head in Bedminster Down on Sunday (February 25) with music and family activities called Daz’s Rock 4 Charity and has also set up a Crowdfunding page.

He says: “This page has been set up to help Chris Marsh’s family with funeral expenses after the sudden, tragic passing of Chris. All monies will be passed directly to the family to help at this sad time.”

Messages have poured in on social media and flowers and cards have been placed near the bus stop where the collision happened.

One message says: “You will be sadly missed. Always in our hearts. Never forgotten.”

Another: “You were an amazing young man, always smiling and always polite. Despite I am writing this with great sadness, you will be missed still so much. Can’t get my head around it. Why such a lovely and loving young man and a good friend to many.”

And one tribute simply: “Fly high my angel.”

Avon and Somerset police have launched an appeal for witnesses to come forward.

The appeal says: “…Enquiries into the incident are continuing. We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident who we have not spoken to who may have information to help our investigation.

“If you are able to help, please call 101, quoting reference 5218036429.”

The fundraising event will take place at the Kings Head, Bridgewater Road, Bedminster Down on Sunday 25 February from 4-7pm with live music, a raffle and auction as well as food, stalls and face painting.
