Tony competes in Clipper Round the World Race
A former Knowle West resident has been following his dream and taking part in the 2015 – 16 Clipper Round the World Race.
Tony Maggs started out last July from London to Rio on the Da Nang-Viet Nam clipper and will return to London again at the end of July.
His sister Wendy Radford (70) said: “We’re all really proud of Tony, it’s a very tough race… He only had four weeks training. Some of the crew are professional and some are amateur. I ‘m walking on eggshells every time he goes.
“He’s just done the Vietnam to China leg and will be completing the last leg from New York to Ireland in June and then to Belgium and London.”
Tony (67) grew up in Knowle West and went to Connaught School. He ran his own double glazing business before he left to live in Tenerife in 2013 – but comes back regularly to visit his family in Knowle West.
Wendy says: “He’s the sort of person who always likes to be doing things, he does like a challenge.”
