Residents are being urged to help decide where a new multi use games area (MUGA) will be located in Filwood – with three consultation events planned during February.

Bristol City Council’s cabinet approved £300,000 in April for a new MUGA for the area as well as floodlights for Filwood Playing Fields – following a community campaign involving local people, groups, football teams and councillors.

The campaign started in 2021 when local youth and children’s groups were so worried about losing informal play space for young people in the area they wrote to Bristol Mayor Marvin Rees – asking for new developments to “increase play spaces and improve existing ones”.

They were also concerned that a popular MUGA on the former swimming pool site at the corner of Filwood Broadway and Hartcliffe Road would be lost if plans are approved for 29 homes on the site.

Residents are now being asked for their final preferred location for the new facility – with potential sites earmarked on Filwood Playing Fields, so it can be close to Filwood Broadway where the current MUGA is.

Local people can also help to decide on the design and what games and activities they would like to see on the new area.

A Bristol City Council spokesperson said: “Consultation events about the potential locations for the new Filwood Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), which are towards the east side of Filwood Playing Fields, will take place on 4 and 15 February. These consultation events will help inform the decision on the location of the MUGA.”
