Pre-employment course for people with disabilities

A pre-employment course for those who identify as disabled or have a long-term health condition is helping residents take that next step into work or training.

Better Together is for anyone aged 19 plus and delivered by a tutor with lived experience of disability. Health conditions for attendees can include anxiety, depression and learning difficulties.

The course is run by WECIL and supported by Education and Skills Funding Agency, Community Learning West and Bristol City Council.

Employment Co-ordinator Alison Browning said: “…Our topics encourage peer support and engagement and help learners to manage anxiety through mindfulness techniques. We encourage our learners to identify their next steps and help them to achieve their goals via signposting and referrals.”

Better Together runs Wednesdays from 21 November to 19 December at Pluss Offices in Lewins Mead, Broadmead BS1 2NT or will be starting again at Knowle Library in Broadwalk from 16 January to 13 February, 10am – 2pm.
