Community in Partnership’s new Development Manager Jo Southard admits she is looking forward to her role in the area.
Based at Filwood Community Centre, Jo took up her post mid-April and is gradually getting to know local residents and organisations. She comes to Knowle West from her role of Charity Manager at the Lighthouse in Weston- Super-Mare.
She says: “I’m overwhelmed by how much is going on here and how many opportunities there are to work together…I’m looking forward to getting to know the people, being part of an amazing team – and hopefully lots of cake.”
And she hopes local residents will come and see her on her working days of Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
She urges: “If you have got any ideas, the kettle is always on – pop in and say hello.”
Jo loves working with teams of people who “want to make the best of the place they live in.”
She says: “I’m passionate about communities and I really want to support the trustees to build on the hard work that has happened over the last few years and to make sure the community centre is part of the future plans…”
Her new role will include obtaining funding for the building – which hosts a number of groups and events – including weddings.
She explains: “I’m here to help secure the building for future generations making sure the facilities are up to scratch … helping to promote the venue but importantly doing it as part of the Community in Partnership.
“Two years down the line – I’d like to see a thriving community centre, used every day in a beautiful building – with regular events to bring people together…”
