Libraries start to open for some services

Bristol Libraries is seeing a ‘gradual reopening’ of its services following lockdown – but it may be some time before all libraries are open.

From Monday 13 July Central Library will be open for returns and a Call and Collect service.

Books will be able to be reserved over the phone or by email, with a maximum of five per person (or eight for children).

Central Library is then set to reopen to the public on Monday 7 September – when users will be able to browse in a limited area of the library, borrow and return books and use pre-booked computers.

Three branch libraries – Stockwood, Henbury and Fishponds – will open from Monday 10 August for returns, limited browsing and borrowing as well as pre-booked computers.

Local libraries in Knowle West including Filwood, Marksbury Road and Knowle remain closed with no announced opening date at present.

Library Service Development Manager, Leon Flower says: “We will constantly review the government guidance as we work towards opening more libraries and increasing services – all in a safe and controlled way.

“During this time we will continue to offer extensive online services – including eBooks and eAudio from our website…  In addition we will also be continuing with our online events from children’s story time and quizzes, through to a virtual Lego club and a new podcast – https://bit.ly/shelflife6

“For the time being we are unable to host any live events in our libraries and will be led by government guidance as to when this may became possible once again.

“We understand that there may be disappointment with a gradual re-opening and that it may be some time before all libraries are open but please rest assured that we are working toward this goal but must be led by the guidance we receive.

“We are looking forward to seeing you back in libraries soon and working with you to make the most of your local library.”

Services at Central Library will be available Monday to Saturday, 11am to 4pm.

Stockwood Library will be open Monday to Saturday from 1-4pm.

Henbury Library will be open from 11am to 4pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Fishponds Library will be open from 11am to 4pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
