A lantern parade and Hollywood-style sign will be brightening up Knowle West on the evening of 1 November.

Led by the Filwood Fantastic group based at Filwood Community Centre -the parade is the first of its kind to take place in the area since the 1980s.

The sign, which says ‘Filwood’ will welcome people to the community and be unveiled for the first time during the parade.

It has been made by the group, with help from Knowle West Media Centre’s KWMC: The Factory.

Both the sign and parade are part of the Filwood Fantastic Illuminations project – which is all about brightening up Knowle West over the winter period.

The project, funded by Creative Civic Change, is being led by local resident and communications assistant for the community centre, Chavez Moulton.

He says: “Events like this this shine a light on Knowle West and all the great stuff going on here. It’s going to bring people together and be a fun time for everyone involved.

“It’s also an opportunity for people to get involved in the community and to express their creativity.”

A street art workshop run by KWMC: The Factory will take place in the community centre on Tuesday 29 October from 10am-1pm.

There will also be the chance to take part in lantern making workshops led by Arts Enlarge on 29 and 30 October from 1.30-4.30pm.

The parade will get underway along Filwood Broadway in Barnstaple Road at 5.30pm on Friday 1 November.

It will be followed by one of the new regular music nights at the centre hosted by Arts2Life UK.
