Area of woodland near Whittock Square in Stockwood where human remains have been found.
An area of Stockwood Open Space has been cordoned off after human remains were discovered in the woodland yesterday morning (Sunday 14 November) during a police search.
They were found near Whittock Square at just before 10am and police remain in the area. Forensic officers are also at the scene and a police dog unit in attendance as the area continues to be searched.
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said the death is being treated as “unexplained” and the identity of the deceased person has not yet been confirmed.
A police statement said: “Police were called at around 9.50am yesterday (Sunday 14 November) to woodland near Whittock Square, Stockwood following the discovery of human remains.
“A cordon is in place while a forensic investigation is carried out at the scene.
“The death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.
“Work to establish the identity of the deceased is likely to take some time.”
