Happy and Active in Knowle West

An event to encourage older people to become more active or learn something new is taking place at Knowle West Media Centre at the end of September.

Happy and Active in Knowle West has been running annually since 2014 – as part of the Celebrating Age Festival. It aims to help combat social isolation and raise awareness of the range of activities over 55s can get involved in locally.

Organised by Knowle West Media Centre (KWMC) and Knowle West Health Park Company, the event includes taster activities in gentle exercise, singing and computer skills as well as the chance to watch films, have a health check or take part in a dance display.

KWMC Media Projects and Engagement Co-ordinator Sue Mackinnon says: “This event is always very popular and we love hosting it. There are a huge number of local groups and activities in Knowle West – and through stalls and workshops people have the chance to find out about the kinds of things they can take part in.

“It’s also an opportunity to sit and chat over a cup of tea and meet people living and working in  the local community.”

The event takes place on Tuesday 26 September from 1-4pm at KWMC (next to Jarman’s shops) and includes free afternoon tea and transport to and from the venue. Transport should be booked by calling Sue on 0117 903 0444.

The Celebrating Age Festival is launched on 23 September at City Hall on College Green and runs for two weeks across Bristol. See www.celebratingagefestival.co.uk
