The Great Bristol Spring Clean is back – and inviting residents from all over the city to roll up their sleeves and help clean up their neighbourhoods for a month.
The annual event is run by Bristol Waste Company – which this year has teamed up with the Big Tidy to stage the campaign from 28 May to 27 June. In 2020 it was unable to take place due to the pandemic.
Big Tidy Communications Officer Hannah Deas says: “Our award-winning litter picking event, the Great Bristol Spring Clean, is back. Bristol Clean Streets are inviting you to put on some hi-vis, grab your best walking shoes, and get ready for a COVID-safe litter picking event…”
Litter picking kits are available for hire which include the sticks, high visibility tabards and bags along with a hoop to help keep them open. All events must observe the latest COVID-19 guidance – and people are asked to fill out a survey letting the campaign know how many bags they have filled.

In 2019, Bristol Waste Company says some 1,219 volunteers litter picked along pathways, pavements, gardens, and parks all over the city. An incredible 85 litter picks took place and a total of 1,132 bags of rubbish and recycling were collected from every corner of the city.
