My Wild City: Make Amazing Nature Prints with Cyanotype (online)
April 15 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
In this workshop we will be exploring this early form of photography that uses the sun to create a print. Sun prints, also known as cyanotypes, have been used to make records of plants for hundreds of years. Sun print paper is coated with chemicals which react when exposed to the sun’s UV light to produce beautiful blue prints.
The workshop is suitable for all ages.
How it works and what you get: You’ll be sent 5 x pieces of ready-to-use cyanotype paper. Store the envelope in a dry, cool, dark place and do not open it until you’re ready to print.
What you’ll need to get ready for the workshop:
- A selection of flat leaves, flowers, feathers, grasses that you’ll use to make your design. You will have time to also collect some of these on the day of the workshop.
- A tray or other large flat surface
- If you have a clip frame, a piece of clear acrylic or glass (although not essential) or some clear sticky tape
- A bucket of cold tap water or access to a tap
What if it’s overcast on the day of the workshop?
We can still print. The exposure time will be longer and your print will be a lighter blue but it’s still possible.
What happens if it rains?
Unfortunately if it rains on the day you won’t be able to create your sun prints but as long as you keep them in a cool dark place then you can use them when it’s sunny again.
This event is free for Knowle West residents (the area has access to the Northern Slopes nature reserve) use the discount code “MYWILDCITY” when booking through Eventbrite. Places are limited.
