Double family celebration for Skemer

It has been a double celebration for boxing coach Skemer Winters – with both his son and grandson winning their respective matches in boxing and Muay Thai.

Skemer who runs The Park Knowle Boxing Club in Tavistock Road said he was “over the moon” at the achievements of his son Duane Winters  – who has just won a Vacant International Challenge Belt – and grandson Mckenzie Hand who recently won a Muay Thai exhibition bout.

He says: “I’m very proud of both of them. They have both trained at my gym. Duane has been boxing for 14 years and is the only professional boxer born and bred from Knowle West…”

Duane (30) who is a Super Bantam Weight beat a Latvian at the Vacant International Challenge Belt – which took place at the University of the West of England (UWE) – in his ninth professional fight.

McKenzie (11) who attends Bedminster Down School only started learning Muay Thai  four months ago. He won his exhibition bout along with eleven-year-old Olan Church who also trains at Skemer’s gym.

The Park Knowle Boxing Club holds evening training classes and also runs anti-bullying sessions on Sundays. Contact Skemer on 0759 472 6905. Facebook Skemer’s Boxing Gym/Park Knowle ABC.
