The group was one of the final seven runners up in The Airbus Community Awards, in association with the Bristol Post and Airbus and was given £500. It was decided by Bristol Post readers in a public vote.
Fit and Fab – which is based at Knowle West Health Park Company (KWHP) will be having a double celebration – as they have their seventh anniversary in May.
The group is run on Thursday mornings by Sally Clements and Stella Picton who said they were both thrilled with the award.
Sally said: “I’m delighted with the effort that the group put in… It’s a great group, it just speaks for itself that it’s been going for seven years. We have about 30 women and the age range is from 28 to 77 – we have a crèche so that mums can come with babies…”
Stella added: “I think we had the award because we are a group that helps women to cope with everyday life, it’s helping them to live well in your mind as well as your body…”
The pair run weekly sessions ranging from healthy eating, cooking and allotment courses to yoga, craft and dance.
Group member Michelle Bastin said: “I’ve been there since day one…. If it wasn’t for Fit and Fab I wouldn’t be the person I am now. I used to feel isolated, now I go to different groups and I’ve become a health champion and walk leader.”
And oldest member 77-year-old Margaret Allen said: “I come to meet everyone and talk about what’s happening in the area and I like the activities very much.”
Fit and Fab meets on Thursdays from 10am to midday at KWHP. For more information contact Sally Clements on 0117 903 0024.
