Turf-cutting ceremony marks start of construction

Mayor George Ferguson was in attendance to officially mark the start of construction on Filwood Green Business Park on Friday 7th March 2014.

The development has already gained a well respected environmental accolade after being Highly Commended in the national BREEAM awards in their ‘Industrial’ category. It was also a finalist for BREEAM’s People’s Choice Award, which was vied for by the highest-scoring buildings across the whole of Europe.

George Ferguson said: “It’s testament to the environmental excellence of this project that even before the first turf has been cut it has been judged as outstanding by BREEAM, and highly commended at the BREEM Awards, the world’s leading design and assessment method for sustainable buildings.

“Filwood’s Green Business Park is an example of our ambitions for our year as European Green Capital.  It combines the highest level of environmental sustainability with strong economic and social benefits for local people.  It is a leading project in the regeneration of South Bristol, a demonstration of the real benefit of organisations working together to deliver local jobs and growth.”

South bristol construction firm Midas Construction will now press ahead with work onsite, with a planned completion date of early 2015. The business park forms part of the wider regeneration plans for Knowle West.
