Craft session at Healthy Life Shop
The Healthy Life shop on Filwood Broadway opened its doors on Tuesday for a drop-in craft session and health advice.
Run by Knowle West Together’s Health Sub Group, with support from charity re:work, the shop is open once a month on a Tuesday afternoon for the public to pop in for a chat -and join in with any activities if they wish.
Local Health Promotion Specialist Kate Cooke explained: “The aim is to engage members of the community in healthy lifestyle conversations … it’s a space to talk informally and we can start to have a bit of presence on Filwood Broadway…”
She said craft sessions were also good for people’s mental wellbeing and allowed them to “have conversations in a relaxed setting”.
Piu Tam from Smokefree Bristol was also on hand this week – to give guidance to those who might want to give up smoking.
She said: “I’m here to take to members of the community. engage and make sure they have the right information and know what services are available. Many people think they can only go to their doctor for help…”
Different sessions have been held at the Healthy Life Shop over the past three months – including a visit from Jake the Therapy dog in November.
The Shop is based at 4 Filwood Broadway. Look out for posters in the New Year for the date of the next session or contact Kate Cooke at Bristol Public Health: ate.cooke@bristol.gov.uk
