A statement from Knowle West Alliance.
In February 2017 five local charities got together to look at how we could work together to bring all of the great things happening in Knowle West together in order to make the best of current and future opportunities, people and resources. Little did we know then that Knowle West Alliance would emerge. The organisations were The Healthy Living Centre, Knowle West Media Centre, Filwood Community Centre, The Park and Re:Work.
Together we developed The Alliance, rooted in the community, growing together. The launch took place in March 2019 and the collaboration showed its strength in our response to COVID and many fantastic opportunities have arisen since then.
At the end of October Re:work shared the following statement:
“Dear Friends and Customers!
As a result of long-term financial issues, Re:work has been formally advised to cease operations from October 31st 2024. Discussions are ongoing about our legacy and we will make further announcements as and when we are advised we are able to.
Thank you for your support and understanding!”
Like many in the community we were shocked and saddened by the recent loss of Re:Work, both as a founder of Knowle West Alliance and a vital organisation that was grown in and by the community.
On November 27th we held a Knowle West Alliance Working Group Meeting where we looked at what assets we have lost and how we can come together to plug the gaps.
Re:Work was an important partner for KWA and will be sadly missed by us. They offered a wide range of activities across Knowle West, were a key partner during covid and took on the oversight of Springfield Allotment.
We realise that things change but it doesn’t stop us remembering how brilliant they were, how they championed the community, how they have supported generations of families and what a gap is lost in the community. As the Founders we will continue to ensure that their legacy is not lost.
