A new gardening project at Knowle West Children’s Centre is looking for donations from the community to help it to continue.

The project at the Inns Court Family Centre site has been started by Early Years Worker Angel Rodriguez – who works with 50 children aged two to four teaching them to grow fruit and vegetables.

He explains: “This project was born to expand the learning opportunities that a garden can offer to a child’s education and their understanding of the environment…

“It will allow us to talk about a healthy diet, natural food and food origins not only with the children – but with their parents and the whole community.

“However is quite difficult to develop and maintain a space without financial support – so we’ve decided to seek help from our local community who have generously donated spare plants, seeds and other materials…”

Angel says he is grateful that the project has also been helped so far by the expertise and donations of local businesses Springfield Allotments, Tesco Extra in Brislington and One Tree Per Child project as well as Bristol Learning Communities.

He says: “Definitely the project´s possibilities are infinite. But in order to carry on we need the support of the community…

“Any small greenhouse you don´t use, plants, seeds or pots, tools, etc we will be happy to give them a use and very grateful.”

To donate any items for the gardening project drop them off at Inns Court Family Centre or call 0117 904 1220.
