Knowle DGE has just launched a new Café Pod to be used for school and community events – and provide work experience for pupils.
It had its first airing today (15 November) at the school on Leinster Avenue – a specialist academy for young people with additional needs. Pupils served refreshments to raise funds for Children in Need
The Cafe Pod was created from an old catering trailer which the students, with staff support, designed and developed.
Head Teacher Darren Ewings said: “Over recent years, we have found it difficult getting suitable work experience for our pupils to prepare them for life beyond school. Therefore, we have come up with a practical and innovative way to involve our pupils and staff.
“Our business plan is to market our Café Pod to other Academies…, local schools, festivals, markets and community events…
“Pupils have been involved in the design, marketing, menu, resourcing and purchasing…”
Corey (pictured above) who helped at the launch, serving hot drinks with his friend Nathan said: “I enjoyed working in the Cafe Pod, it’s been great fun and think it will really help me with work experience as I get older.”
