Boxing Club still looking for home

Skemer’s Boxing Gym is still without a home with the deadline the end of December for it to move.

Chris ‘Skemer’ Winters who runs the club on Tavistock Road on land owned by The Park has been looking for other premises. The Park has said it needs to sell the land for development in order to secure its future.

Skemer  hoped to get the Jubilee Hall on Wedmore Vale – but this has fallen through. He also tried to get the flats above Melvin Square shops.

Bristol City Council has said it wants to support the club and is looking for possible options. At time of going to press Skemer had a meeting at City Hall and was feeling positive.

He said: “The Mayor Marvin Rees and the council are doing their best to help me find a premises in Knowle…”

Bristol Mayor Marvin Rees visited the threatened boxing club last November.

Skemer said he also had support from Bristols own ex world champion Glenn Catley as well as local organisations and the community – and was now looking at Salcombe Road rent office as a possible venue.
