The chance to sing old favourites over a cuppa and piece of cake at Knowle West Health Park proved irresistible to older people in the area.
With live piano music and song sheets they joined in with gusto at an event on Thursday (23 November) aimed at giving everyone a good time.
Organised by Knowle West Healthy Living Centre (KWHLC) – the afternoon included free transport to the venue with the Mede Sprint.
Sally Clements who ran the event explained: “The aim is to obviously use the Play Me I’m Yours piano – but also to open space for people who are isolated and lonely – a place to come and just meet for a sing along and chat.
“Hopefully we can invite some children along to sing and encourage some intergenerational work….We are intending to do this again on 25 January.”
Over 30 older people came from across Knowle West – including Jan Catterall who brought her 88-year-old mother.
She said: said: “My mum likes singing, tea and cake and a lot of older people enjoy singing and to be with their peers…”
And Linda Davies (65) said: “It’s good for people to get out where they are isolated and to be able to meet up with others… and it’s good that it’s local…”
