Outcome of the Filwood Park Design Event 12-16 November 2011

This plan, which has been slightly amended, was the outcome of the EbD (12-16 November 2011) a fully inclusive and public event.

Minor revisions include:

  • turning the office building to ensure the park and junior playing pitch has improved overlooking
  • re-configuring the residential block fronting onto Hengrove Way to take on board design feedback and increase of family home
  • re-siting the young person shelter and children’s play equipment to reflect feedback from community and officers
  • realignment of path through park to improve connectivity
  • inclusion of bike tracks within open space.

There is no change to the housing numbers proposed for the development.

It is therefore an important public record of the event and the principles of the plan will be incorporated into the planning application to be submitted by the Homes and Communities Agency.

Making a better Broadway: October 2011 Consultation

From The City Design Group, Bristol City Council

The Knowle West Plan showed that local people wanted Filwood Broadway to be their main shopping centre.  Together, residents and Council Officers have come up with some exciting ideas to regenerate the Broadway as a thriving place for local people. There will be ideas about: the location for a supermarket, housing, shops and jobs, public areas – (e.g. street furniture, parking and lighting), play and green spaces and community facilities.

Bristol City Council wants to hear more local views to help decide future plans.  So, do play your part in making a better Broadway and see the ideas at Filwood Library (Filwood Broadway):

The main event is Thursday 20th October. Drop-in between 10am – 8pm and the team will explain the ideas to you.

Or see the exhibition from Friday 21st October until Saturday 29th October.  Open Monday to Friday (9.30am –1pm and 2pm –5pm) and  Saturdays (9:30am –1pm).  Closed Thursdays and Sundays.

Your views and ideas will be considered when the draft formal document is produced outlining the plans for the future Filwood Broadway.  For more info, visit www.bristol.gov.uk/kwrf

Parks and Green Spaces Strategy

Dear Sir/Madam

Many thanks for contributing to the recent consultation on our Parks and Green Spaces Strategy. There has been a record number of responses – more than 3,000, not including people who signed petitions or attending drop-in sessions. Your input is very much welcomed and I can assure you that the points you raise are being carefully considered.

I wanted to update on the next steps. Officers have worked through the consultation responses and drawn up final proposals. These will be discussed firstly at an extraordinary meeting of the council’s Quality of Life Scrutiny Commission that will be held at the Council House on Wednesday 15 December (10am).

This replaces the scheduled discussion that was planned for Monday December 6. The change in date allowed officers more time to work up their final proposals following the huge level of public interest.
On the following day – Thursday December 16 at 4pm – the Council’s Cabinet will meet as planned to decide on the final plans.

Members of the public will be able to attend both meetings, make public statements in the usual way or watch proceedings on the webcast through the council’s website – www.bristol.gov.uk/webcast.
I would like to thank you once again for your contribution to this important consultation.

Yours faithfully
Tracey Morgan
Service Director

KWRPG completes two year planning marathon

The Knowle West Residents’ Planning Group have just completed their work on an option for the regeneration of the area covered by the Knowle West Regeneration Plan.

To highlight this work the Group issued the follow press release:

“The Knowle West Residents Planning Group was established in the autumn of 2008 by the local Community in Partnership to ensure that local residents’ views on the future of their neighbourhood were taken into account at all stages in the planning process, something rarely achieved in the past.

Effective community involvement is now part of the City Council’s policy, thanks to the work of the Neighbourhood Planning Network who designed it.  It gives further powers to local people to engage in genuine planning and will soon be part of the Coalition Government’s regulations.

The Group’s alternative is well based on widespread local knowledge through the Group members’ networks, extensive sample surveys of local opinion and exhibitions that the residents arranged themselves…

Bristol’s Area Green Space Plans

Bristol’s Area Green Space Plans – Update on behalf of Bristol City Council

Dear Stakeholder

We are writing to inform you that Bristol’s Area Green Space Plans, part of the Parks and Green Space Strategy will be open to consultation from June 2010. The Knowle West Regeneration Framework project is informing these Area Green Spaces Plan for the Knowle West area, and details of how people can get involved will be given closer to the consultation date.

This has been re-scheduled from our intended January start, and there a number of reasons for this:

This timing will ensure the public and key stakeholders can consider the Parks and Green Space proposals in the context of the Council’s long term planning policies, currently being proposed as part of the Core Strategy and the Site Allocations Plan. The Site Allocations community involvement is now due to proceed in June and we are keen to take a ‘one city’ approach and remain aligned.

It is vital that we have a joined up approach so that you remain fully informed on the Council’s overall vision for the city’s future planning and development – and how our parks and green space continue to play a vital role in the fabric of the city.

The consultation, commencing in some areas in Bristol from June, will also mean that our emerging Neighbourhood Committees will have more opportunities to consider the proposals and determine the local community benefits the strategy could bring.

We are confident that the decision to hold the consultation from June will pay dividends with more local people better informed – and the final strategy documents will be of a high quality, setting out clearly the potential opportunities for the future investment and improvement of our cities parks and green spaces.

Your continued engagement in the process is extremely important to us and we hope you will continue to support us in participating in our future consultation.

If you have any questions – please do not hesitate to contact your Area Green Space Planning Officer, or Katy Mugford on 0117 922 2369

Yours Sincerely

Richard Fletcher
Area Green Space Plan Project Manager

Update on the development of the Knowle West Regeneration Framework

Update on the development of the Knowle West Regeneration Framework – on behalf of Bristol City Council Knowle West Project Team

There have been a number of workshops, study tours, and consultation events with local people to inform the development of the Knowle West Regeneration Framework.

Good progress is being made on the ideas for the future of Knowle West. However, local residents and stakeholders, including the Knowle West Residents’ Planning Group have asked for an extension to the ongoing consultation process, to ensure that we get it right. It is important that we fully understand the outcome of the current Bus Rapid Transit consultation and other local studies and reviews before the final plan can be completed.

This extension will ensure that the best results are achieved so the regeneration plan can deliver the agreed Knowle West Vision developed by local people: “A community full of confidence and pride, skilled and healthy, living in a thriving Bristol neighbourhood that is green and well connected and low in living costs.

The final consultation events will now be held in October 2010. We would like to thank all of you who have been actively involved to date and  for sharing your views and ideas. On behalf of the Project Team at Bristol City Council, and on behalf of our consultants, Urban Initiatives, may we take the opportunity to wish you a very happy and a successful New Year!

Knowle West Futures Exhibition video booth

As part of the Knowle West Futures Exhibition in September, at the Filwood Funday, a video booth was run by the Knowle West Media Centre. Local people could come in and say what they think about the future of Knowle West – see and hear local people’s opinions.

Regeneration project update

The project team is now working with local stakeholders to agree next steps. A number of people have raised concerns about the need for the outcome of the current Bus Rapid Transit consultation and other studies / reviews to conclude before the framework is finalised, as they may have a significant impact. As a result the project team is giving consideration to allowing more time, including further possible public consultation. More details to follow.

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) will be coming to Bristol

As you may know Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) will be coming to Bristol. BRT is a rapid, reliable, frequent and punctual form of public transport that will link existing housing with business, tackle current congestion and help to encourage investment into the area. Some early ideas of the BRT were presented during Knowle West Conversations. There is a consultation event on Monday 7th December at the Knowle West Media Centre from 9am to 7pm in the Exhibition Studio. View the ‘North Fringe to Hengrove Package‘ flyer for more details and make sure you come and have your say!
