This Saturday (7 September) residents will be turning out for one of the biggest local events of the calendar year.

Knowle West Fest is a time when local residents and organisations come together to celebrate all that’s good in the area.

Now in its sixth year – the event is taking place at Filwood Community Centre and the theme for 2019 is ‘Cultures of Knowle West’.

It’s been organised for the second time by Makala Cheung from Community in Partnership Knowle West (CIPKW) – who will also be performing with her band under her stage name Kala Chng.

She says: “We want to celebrate the traditional culture of Knowle West and the new culture moving into the area over the past five years.

“This year will be bigger and better with more kid’s activities – there is going to be a bouncy castle and crazy golf which people asked for and Link Age will also be developing activities for older people at the festival…”

With a range of stalls, activities for all ages, music and DJs – the event will run from 1 to 8pm.

There will also be the launch of the new Filwood market on the green at the front of the Centre.

Residents will be able to try out activities such as ping pong, a sing-along and a variety of arts and crafts as well as circus skills, dancing and Virtual Reality.

Music will feature plenty of local talent, and acts will include 3Culture and headliners reggae band Da Fuchaman as well as DJ Bunjy.

This year’s festival is made possible thanks to funding from Creative Civic Change and Bristol City Council.

The event runs from 1-8pm with DJs from 5-8pm at Filwood Community Centre in Barnstaple Road. RSVP on Facebook: Knowle West Fest 2019.
