A local family held a benefit charity evening this month at Filwood Community Centre – and raised over £3,000 for a Bristol cancer treatment centre.
Craig Knight got together with close family members and organised the event to raise money for the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre, in memory of his father, Peter, who died of cancer.
Up to 300 people packed the venue and enjoyed an evening full of entertainment and fun – including a Rod Stewart tribute act, singers and an auction.
A Manchester United football signed by the team raised £1,000 alone and a further £500 was raised from a signed Aston Villa football. They were auctioned alongside items such as a Banksy picture, Bristol City shirts and gym classes. Ticket sales and a raffle raised the remainder of the money, which will be sent by cheque to the Centre.
Craig and his family said that they were overwhelmed by the support for the event which was attended by many people from Knowle West.
His wife Claire said: ‘We would like to thank everyone for their kindness and support.. Many people donated their services for free including the raffle and auction prizes.”
