  • Under 11s can win an exclusive prize at Aardman Animations in Bristol.
  • Four VIP passes to the 2011 Relentless NASS Action Sports and Music Festival in Shepton Mallett are on offer for the winners in the 11 to 17 category.
  • Adults can win a short break for up to four people in a Forest Holidays Cabin, at one of six Forestry Commission locations.

To enter simply make a video (2 minutes or less) showing Sustrans what the National Cycle Network means to you. You can use a camcorder, digital camera or mobile to shoot your film. The important thing is to come up with a creative idea and have fun making your film. Good luck!

Council’s Budget Conversations – have your say

Following the Government’s Budget statement last month, Bristol City Council are holding a series of online consultations.  They would like to hear our views on:

  • how the public sector can achieve better value for money
  • areas of work that could better be delivered by people other than existing public sector agencies;
  • any public services that, in these tough financial times, could usefully be cut back or stopped altogether.

To join in the debate or for more information visit the Ask Bristol website.

Pinhole Camera Collection

From Knowle West Media Centre

Justin Quinnell gave out 450 pinhole cameras as part of the ‘Sunrise’ project at Knowle West Media Centre a few months ago. He is now collecting the cameras that were put up to uncover what has appeared.

When you have taken your camera down, put a small piece of insulation tape over the hole, (if you don’t have insulation tape, stick a piece of card over the hole with sellotape). It would also be useful if a digital photo could be taken of the camera in its position before it is taken down.

However the most important thing is to have some information written on, or attached to, the camera so Justin can work out whose image is whose!

Please include the following information:

1. Your name
2. The group the person belongs to (if relevant)
3. Where the camera was positioned or what it was pointing at

Please bring the cameras in to Knowle West Media Centre on Leinster Avenue, between 9am and 6pm and hand them into reception.

Many thanks from Justin and KWMC for being part of the project.

Free & low-cost computer scheme

From Connecting Bristol

“We want Bristol to be a truly inclusive and connected digital city where anyone who wants a computer at home can have one and where help to get connected is easily available.

We realise that this is a considerable task as 15% of Bristol residents say they have never been on line.

To help achieve our vision we will create a citywide scheme to make available a free (or low cost) recycled computer, and advice about affordable Internet connectivity, to individuals and families who are on a low income or who experience other disadvantages.”

To find out whether you are eligible for a free computer or learn more about the schemes that exist please visit the Connecting Bristol website.

Changes to local bus services

From First Bristol, Somerset & Avon

Service changes in Bristol, effective 23 May 2010

To further improve the punctuality and reliability of bus services in Bristol, and make some routes more user friendly, First is making some changes to the local bus network from Sunday 23 May.

Many of the changes are positive – seeing some routes extended, more buses running later in the evening and at weekends, and a new service connecting Inns Court with Bedminster introduced.

Talking about the changes, Justin Davies, Managing Director of First Bristol, Somerset and Avon, says: “We regularly review our networks making sure that they are running as efficiently as possible, and that the published timetables best reflect the time it takes us to actually travel from A to B.

“We hope that our customers will be pleased by these changes, particularly those living in Inns Court, who will find that a link between there and the Broadwalk Shops has been re-established from 23 May; this new service has been introduced as a result of customer demand, and will be trialled for six months.”
