Knowle West is a community in South Bristol. It’s about two miles from the centre of
the city.

The first homes on the Knowle West estate were built in the 1930s. It was built as a council housing estate, although nowadays almost half of the 5,500 or so homes are privately owned.

Knowle West suffers from an image problem in Bristol, and the estate is deprived in many ways.

That is why there are several regeneration initiatives taking place, including Knowle West Neighbourhood Management. These aim to revitalise the area, make it a safer and more pleasant place to live, and create new opportunities for residents.

And many people who live here say that, despite the problems, the community is second to none and they wouldn’t dream of moving away!
