The fifth Happy and Active in Knowle West event for over 55s took place yesterday to a packed house.
Organised by Knowle West Media Centre (KWMC) and Knowle West Health Park (KWHP) the afternoon included a host of activities to help older people become more active and involved in their community.
Around 70 people were treated to afternoon tea and activities at KWMC – such as singing, gentle exercise and computer skills as well as a reminiscence workshop and dance display.
Local organisations and groups held stalls to show the attendees the huge range of things going on in the area – from film clubs to walking groups.
Resident Kay White 80 said: “It was absolutely marvellous, I’ve been before and I’d come back again. I loved all of it, the food, the singing, the friendly staff and great company…:”
Eighty-six-year old June Mitchell said: “It was fantastic. I liked the computer skills as they showed me things I didn’t know and I found my family on the internet! It was very educational and everything was lovely.”
Sue Mackinnon from KWMC said: “Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and we loved hosting it. The weather was wonderful so we were able to have activities outside including a creativity table. It is great just getting people together for a good time and showing them how they can get involved in their community.”
