Older people in Knowle West enjoyed an afternoon of activities at Knowle West Media Centre at the end of September – as part of the Celebrating Age festivities.
“Happy and Active in Knowle West” took place at Knowle West Media Centre (KWMC) – with over 100 local people turning out in blazing sunshine for the event.
It was organised by KWMC and Knowle West Health Park and introduced a range of tasters aimed at the over 55s – from art and digital skills, to a singing session and a dance display. There were stalls offering information and attendees could also try ear acupuncture or take part in a local walk if hey wished. Visitors were also treated to pancakes made by “Man Alive” and free afternoon tea.
KWMC’s Media Projects and Engagement Co-ordinator Sue Mackinnon said: “It has been wonderful to see so many people coming along to see the kind of things that are available to them across the area. Everyone seemed to have a really good time and it helped having such fantastic weather, so we could have some activities outside.”
“We have had excellent feedback and people definitely want us to run the event again next year. The aim of the event which we ran with the Health Park was to encourage people to get more involved in their community and stay active.”
Pensioner Kenny Downes said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the event, we should definitely have more things like this in the area.”
The Celebrating Age Festival will run across the city until 11 October. For more information visit www.caf.org.uk
