With news that Bristol is the official European Capital of Sport for 2017 – a local organisation is also celebrating a grant to upgrade its sports facilities.
The Park in Daventry Road has just received £5,000 from Bristol City Council to update equipment used by teams playing football, netball and basketball.
The Park Director, Emma Hinton said the organisation was “really pleased” to be awarded the grant which will be used to benefit people of all ages.
She said: “Our sports hall is in need of refurbishment and every pot of money helps. This upgrade will benefit not only the Lazyboys (a basketball team) but also the local community who use the sports hall…
“The basketball boards and hoops are being replaced and we are also getting a scoreboard installed.”
Jim Hodgson who runs Lazyboys Basketball Club at the venue said: “Lazyboys Basketball are absolutely thrilled that The Park have been given this grant for new equipment.
“We are a thriving club in South Bristol with 55 members, and the current basketball hoops are outdated and unsafe. It’s really important that clubs like ours – and the wider community – can benefit from good quality equipment which helps combat inactivity in the local area…
“This grant, alongside the money which Lazyboys has raised in the past year, will mean that we’ll be using top quality equipment which all can enjoy!”
