Ilminster Avenue Primary School

Ilminster Avenue Primary moves to academy status

Release Date:  13-May-2011

Education group, E-ACT, has been selected to support and sponsor Ilminster Avenue Primary School in south Bristol, Bristol City Council announced today.

E-ACT is a national academy and free school sponsor, responsible for transforming and improving academies and schools across England.

E-ACT is led by former Schools Commissioner, Sir Bruce Liddington. This is the second primary school in Bristol set to be run by the group, following the announcement earlier this week that E-ACT will sponsor a new primary academy on the former St Ursula’s school site in north-west Bristol.

E-ACT already has a presence in the West Country as sponsor of the ‘all-age’ Dartmouth Academy in Devon, which opened in September 2010.

Director for Children, Young People and Skills at Bristol City Council, Annie Hudson, said: “Securing E-ACT as the sponsor for a new academy at Ilminster Avenue Primary School is an important step in our work to raise standards at the school. We are committed to securing the best possible education for all children in Bristol. E-ACT have a strong track record in sponsoring successful schools and I am sure they will work collaboratively with other schools in the area for the benefit of local children.”

Sir Bruce Liddington said: “Our organisation specialises in developing high performing schools, especially where there are challenging circumstances. We’re particularly looking forward to working closely with staff, parents and governors at Ilminster, to deliver an excellent education for all pupils.”
